WE ASKED HIM ABOUT THE RESULTS OF A POLL THAT FOUND 75% OF DEMOCRATS WANT SOMEONE ELSE THAN HIM TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2024 BUT BIDEN DISMISSED IT.


"NAH, NOT HAPPENING.  THEY LOVE ME.  THEY LOVE MY DIRTY BATH WATER.  LIKE COVID 19, THEY CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF ME," HE INSISTED CHEWING WIDLY.


SO HE IS NOT WORRIED AT ALL?


"NOT A BIT," JOE BIDEN EXPLAINED.  "I'VE GOT A SECRET PLAN.  WHEN THINGS START TO GET TOO BAD, I SEND OUT THE KAMALA-BOT AND SUDDENLY I LOOK SMARTER, WARMER AND BETTER BY COMPARISON."

Moqtada is self-presenting as he's keeping the government from being formed and some will believe that.  He's not keeping it from being formed.  The Kurds have to decide on the president which, at this point, they still haven't.  After the president is voted on -- and that has to be done in a gathering but that gathering doesn't have to take place in the official Parliament building and, due to COVID, it could, in fact, take place virtually.  


But should cry baby Moqtada get his way and a new vote be held, he is aware he probably won't get his way then.  Meaning?  Moqtada saw his own cult -- after he instructed them to vote -- turn out in their lowest numbers ever.  Let's say he and his goons were granted a revote that took place this fall.  What has he accomplished to up those numbers?


Nothing.


By contrast, there are a number of non-Sadrists who sat out the vote that now feel they shouldn't have.  It's much more likely that the same low number is all Moqtada will be able to turn out in a re-vote whereas many others could show up to vote.  Equally true, Mustafa al-Kadhimi will be stopped if he tries to prevent the security forces from voting this go round.  He'll be stopped by the court.  He pulled that one out of thin air and surprised observers back in October.  It was announced right before the elections.


There's already a court ruling ready to be released if there's a revote.  He's not going to be able to deny Iraqis from voting this time just because they're close to Iran and just because they're in the security forces.


All security forces were supposed to be entitled to turn out in early voting.  But then Mustafa announced that the paramilitaries couldn't.  These militias were supposed to work election day -- often far from home -- to protect election polling places and then return to their own districts in time to vote before the polls closed.  


It was Mustafa's attempt (goaded by the US government) to prevent the militia members close to Iran from voting.  


It shouldn't have happened -- and a lot of non-Iraqis aren't aware it did because the western press ignored it.  They only care about a fair vote when they're personal pets don't suffer.  I don't like the militias, we were against them ever being made part of the Iraqi military.  But I won't pretend that a fair election took place when they were disenfranchised.


Many did pretend, many western outlets.  They would include the fact that the militias were saying the elections were not fair and then these 'fair' outlets would insist that there was no evidence of fraud.  No evidence?  They were prevented from voting with the rest of the security forces in the early election that is held just for the security forces.  Then they were still expected to protect polling places on election day for their assigned shift -- often requiring several hours of travel to get to the polling place they were assigned -- and were supposed to somehow make it to their own polling place to vote.  


This did not happen by accident.  It was a means to suppress the vote.

    If the Security Council takes a pass, Iraq appears ready to address it themselves.  MEHR NEWS AGENCY reports:

    An Iraqi Parliament member announced that the Iraqi Parliament is reviewing passing a law on expelling Turkish forces from Iraqi soil.

    "The Iraqi parliament is determined to determine the task of the case of the illegal presence of Turkish army forces in the areas of northern Iraq, which is considered a clear violation of its sovereignty," the source cited.


     


    The Coordination Framework, an umbrella parliamentary bloc including all Iran-backed Shia factions, formally nominated Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani to be the new Iraqi prime minister, Iraqi state media reported Monday. 

    "Today, the leaders of the Shia framework met in positive conditions and they unanimously agreed to nominate Mr Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani for the [Iraqi] premiership," read a statement released by the Coordination Framework. 

    Al-Sudani, 52, is a Shia Iraqi lawmaker from the south-eastern Maysan Governorate. He has a Bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences. He has held several posts and ministerial portfolios in the Iraqi government, including the governor of Maysan, the minister of human rights in 2010, and the minister of labour and social affairs in 2014.   


    Doesn't that end the stalemate?  No.  As ARAB WEEKLY notes:

    The attention of Iraqis has shifted to the disagreement between Kurdish forces over the nomination of the country’s next president, after the Shia camp within the Coordinating Framework managed to reach an agreement on the selection of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani as its nominee for prime minister.

    Iraqi political analysts say that the approach of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) could scupper any deal with The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to agree on a nominee for the presidency because the KDP is not looking for a compromise with the PUK and continues to pressure the pro-Iran Shia political alliance, the Coordination Framework in a way that some descibe as an "attempt at blackmail"...


    You can't jump to the prime minister.  A prime minister-designate is named by the president.  Once named, the designate has 30 days to form a Cabinet which is the test that proves the designate is up to the job and, if so, can move from prime minister designate to prime minister.

    By custom, the president is a Kurd.

    The forming of a Cabinet in 30 days has never really been held and that's why Iraq's governments have been in disarray from the start.

    So what might be considered is how much does the Constitution have to be followed?

    The Constitution is clear that a president is elected and the president's first job is to then name a prime minister-designate.  Could Iraq use the existing president to name a prime minister-designate?  It probably could attempt to but doing so would make the KDP angry and probably lose their votes.

    Another step around the impasse?

    The Coordinating Framework could nominate, in front of Parliament, a person for the presidency.  By custom, it would need to be a Kurd and it would need to be someone popular enough to get the votes.  There is no rule in the Constitution that says the PUK and the KDP get to work out who the president of Iraq is.  They can be bypassed.  But you're going to need a very popular nominee to do that. 

    So, at present, the political stalemate continues.

    The persecution of Julian Assange continues.  Oscar Grenfell (WSWS) reports:

    On Friday, British Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that she has approved WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s extradition to the United States. Assange’s family, including his wife, Stella Moris, immediately declared that they would fight the decision, including through a further British legal appeal.

    If Assange is extradited, he faces 18 charges under the Espionage Act and 175 years imprisonment for publishing what the American government and the British courts acknowledge was true information exposing US foreign policy.

    When it comes to Ukraine, the US and its allies continuously claim that they are defending democracy against Russian “authoritarianism.” On the basis of these assertions, the Biden administration has funneled tens of billions of dollars in weaponry to the Ukrainian government, in what has become a US-NATO proxy war against Russia.

    In the Asia-Pacific, Washington and its allies similarly assert that they are defending “freedom” in opposition to Chinese “autocracy.”

    The persecution of Assange exposes all of these statements as complete lies used to justify a program of aggressive militarism and war.

    In the heart of Britain, Assange, a journalist, is imprisoned in a maximum-security prison without charge, while the US seeks his extradition for exposing its war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Assange’s legal and democratic rights have been continuously attacked. There is clear evidence that the US oversaw a massive spying operation against Assange, while he was a political refugee in Ecuador London’s embassy. This included illegal surveillance of his privileged communications with lawyers.

    Last September, Yahoo! News reported that in 2017, the Trump administration and the CIA discussed kidnapping or assassinating Assange in London. The article was based on the statements of 30 former US officials.

    Outgoing United Nations Rapporteur Nils Melzer has repeatedly branded the US and British treatment of Assange as torture. Hundreds of doctors have demanded Assange’s freedom and warned of his deteriorating health.

    Despite all of this, the Biden administration has continued the prosecution and the British courts have facilitated it. The contradiction between the supposed US-led campaign for “freedom” in Ukraine, and its determination to lock Assange away, is a staggering display of imperialist hypocrisy.


    This persecution of Julian is about silencing the press.  Monday April 5, 2010, WIKILEAKS released US military video of a July 12, 2007 assault in Iraq. 12 people were killed in the assault including two Reuters journalists Namie Noor-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh.  That is when the persecution begins.  It was an intimidation carried out by multiple presidents starting with Barack Obama, continuing with Donald Trump and now the baton for killing the press has been handed off to Joe Biden. This has had the effect of scaring off many traditional news outlets.  They once partnered with Julian to report and now they act as though they've never heard of him.  Saving their own asses?  They may think that.  If they do, they're dead wrong.  An attack on Julian is an attack on all.  And if the attack on Julian is not loudly and publicly rebuked, you can be sure that next up will be THE WASHINGTON POST or THE MIAMI HERALD or some other institution -- despite the US Constitution -- the same one that's being ignored in this attack on Julian.

    Meanwhile, El Pais reported last week that Britain is obstructing the Spanish National High Court from examining other allegations of illegal spying on Assange’s legal team.

    Taken together, the various abuses to which Assange has been subjected, and the protracted character of his persecution, brand it as one of the political crimes of the century.

    Speaking at yesterday’s press conference, Assange’s wife Stella Moris said the British legal process was being “used to prolong Julian’s suffering.” Britain, she said, “should not be engaging in persecution on behalf of a foreign power that is out for revenge… that foreign power committed crimes which Julian put into the sunlight.”

    Moris vowed, “we’re going to fight this,” including through a final appeal within the British set-up. Robinson explained that this would focus on the political nature of the prosecution, its contravention of the British-US extradition treaty and the various abuses, including the CIA plots against Assange.

    Together with Moris and WikiLeaks, press groups, journalists’ associations and international rights groups warned that Patel’s decision represents a frontal onslaught on core rights that will be deployed against others.

    American whistleblower, Edward Snowden, who exposed mass NSA spying, tweeted: “Hard to believe, but it looks real. Every serious press freedom group in the world has protested this. It is an appalling symbol of how far the British and American governments’ commitment to human rights has declined.”

    Well-known Australian investigative journalist John Pilger posted: “Home Secretary Priti Patel has approved the extradition of Julian #Assange to an American hellhole. A new appeal will now challenge the political rottenness of British ‘justice.’ Either we raise our voices as never before, or our silence colludes in the death of an heroic man.”

    No, he wants to attack Felicia.  And he wants you to know that Jimmy Dore has too.


    You know what Jimmy did to Ana of THE YOUNG TURKS wasn't harassment.  And we said that in real time, we said it here and we said it at THIRD.  But Jimmy is a sexist.
